His character in Friends, Joey Tribbiani, would run a mile at the very idea of making such a commitment.
But when Matt LeBlanc married his girlfriend of five years in Hawaii at the weekend, he looked delighted to be putting his life as an eligible bachelor behind him.
Le Blanc, 35, and British model Melissa McKnight had been engaged since 1998.
He is said to have been convinced to take the plunge after his friend Michael Douglas told him: "Marriage is the way to go."
The ceremony was held at sunset above the picturesque Anini Vista beach on the island of Kauai.
Le Blanc's Friends co-star Matthew Perry was unable to attend as he is performing in a West End play.
But the rest of the cast, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer, were among the guests - applauding as the couple were pronounced husband and wife. The 50 guests all arrived in white limousines for the 30-minute ceremony.
Le Blanc wore a black tuxedo and a garland of flowers while McKnight, also 35, was dressed in a white gown and veil and held a bouquet of red flowers.
It is thought that the couple will spend several days honeymooning on the island. They are said to be renting a villa recently used by Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart.
Filming on the final series of Friends, for which each of the stars is paid nearly $2 million an episode, begins in September.
Le Blanc is working on the Charlie's Angels Full Throttle.
