King Kong Is Back

Peter Jackson's boyhood dream is about to come true. Universal has announced Jackson's next project will be a re-telling of King Kong.

Production will start as soon as Jackson has finished the third and final part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King (2003).

"I'm making movies today because I saw this film when I was nine years old," Jackson said. "It has been my sustained dream to reinterpret this classic story for a new age."

Universal said the movie would be written by the same team who wrote the scripts for Lord of the Rings: Jackson, his partner Fran Walsh and co-writer Philippa Boyens.

The screenplay is based on the original story by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, which became the classic 1933 RKO Radio Pictures film, directed by Cooper and Ernest B. Schoesdack, and starring Fay Wray as the enormous creature's love interest.
