Speculation Over Crowe's Wedding Plans

Claims that Oscar winner Russell Crowe would soon marry his singer girlfriend Danielle Spencer in Fiji have been quashed by the star's Australian publicist.

The denial comes after reports surfaced last night of Crowe's impending marriage at the exclusive Wakaya Club resort complex, east of the capital, Suva.

The wedding rumours were attributed in an AFP report to local tourism sources.

But Crowe's Australian publicist Wendy Day said the report was simply part of mounting speculation over where and when the pair would marry, as their wedding day drew closer.

"Obviously there is a lot of speculation about Russell and Danielle's wedding," Day said.

"This is way off the mark."

She expected that media rumours would continue over the star pair's nuptials because "it's everyone's job to try and find out".

Crowe stayed on the island with Nicole Kidman and her two children just after her marriage with Tom Cruise broke up and soon after their departure Cruise showed up with his new girlfriend, actress Penelope Cruz.

Last year when the pair announced their engagement, Day said the pair would likely marry in late 2003.

Crowe, 38, proposed during dinner at one of the couple's favourite Sydney Italian restaurants.

The day before, Crowe phoned Spencer's father, Don, to formally ask for his daughter's hand in marriage.

The New Zealand-born Oscar winner first met Spencer, who is also an actor, on the set of the 1990 film, The Crossing.
