Shivering Salma hides the glamour

Salma Hayek has disappointed film fans gathered at the UK premiere of Frida (2002), by refusing to take off her coat.

Hundreds braved the cold weather to catch a glimpse of the Oscar-nominated actress as she arrived at the Odeon Leicester Square.

The 36-year-old star said she was too cold to reveal the dress, but did stay outside the cinema waving to fans and signing autographs.

She said she was "very excited" with her best actress Oscar nomination for the film, in which she plays a Mexican artist struck down by health problems.

Of other contenders Nicole Kidman, who stars in Hours, The (2002) and Renée Zellweger, who was nominated for her role in Chicago: The Musical (2002), Hayek said: "I think they are terrific."

"I'm just very happy with all the nominations the films have got. Only very few get to have this kind of acknowledgement and you feel very fortunate."

She continued: "I'm very tired at the moment. After I've finished this I can have a day off and get seven hours sleep. I'm in a daze."

The actress's actor boyfriend Ed Norton was unable to attend the premier but Hayek said she was seeing him tomorrow.

"I'm going to be with him for Valentine's Day," she said. "Then I will be with him."
