Superman flies back to cinemas

Comic book hero Superman is to return to the big screen for the first time since 1987, in a new film to be directed by Rush Hour's Brett Ratner.
A spokesman for Warner Bros, who will produce the film, said, "Superman is an American icon and a timeless hero. We are very happy to be working on this important new chapter in his legacy."

There have been several attempts to make another Superman film over the past few years, with Nicolas Cage at one point tipped to take on the role.

Ratner's latest film, the Silence Of The Lambs prequel Red Dragon (2002), will be released on 11 October.
