Controversial New Film Upsets MP's

Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein has opened up a real can of worms with his new film, Rabbit-Proof Fence (2001), a movie about those dark years in Australia's history when Aboriginal children were taken from their tribes to be integrated into white society and trained as servants.

The film's posters provocatively asks, 'What if the government kidnapped your daughter?' and a number of Aussie MPs have complained that the promo material implies that the country is racist.

The controversy is causing something of a storm down under, and PM John Howard has refused to apologise to the families of those affected by the policy. It all makes for some cracking publicity, though.
