Moulin Rouge Quashes Enigma At London Award Ceremony


Musical movie MOULIN ROUGE (2001) quashed ENIGMA (2001)'s hopes at success at the London Film Critics Circle awards last night (13th February 2002). BAZ LUHRMANN's love story was named film of the year and its stars NICOLE KIDMAN and EWAN McGREGOR picked up Best Actress and Best British Actor respectively. Dame JUDI DENCH won her second award this week after picking up Best British Actress for IRIS (2001).

On Tuesday (12th February 2002) the veteran star won a Variety Club gong for her contribution to acting. American actor BILLY BOB THORNTON was compensated for failing a receive an Oscar nomination on Tuesday (12th February 2002), with Best Actor for his performance in MAN WHO WASN'T THERE, the (2001). British actors HELEN MIRREN and PAUL BETTANY gained recognition for supporting actors awards. ROBERT ALTMAN's murder mystery GOSFORD PARK (2002) was named British Film of the Year, while French flick AMELIE (2000) picked up Foreign Film of the Year.
