Monsters Inc Based On Childhood Fears

The director of smash-hit animated movie Monsters, Inc. (2001) wrote the film after remembering his own childhood fears. The cartoon comedy has won rave reviews since its release in America last November (2001), featuring the voices of JOHN GOODMAN, BILLY CRYSTAL and STEVE BUSCEMI. And movie-maker PETE DOCTER has revealed he used his own childhood nightmares as inspiration to write the flick.

Docter - who also wrote Toy Story (1995) - says, "I was certain about two things as a child - my toys came awake when I went to sleep and there was a monster in my closet. And if I left the closet door open when I went to bed that would be a bad mistake. "
