GWYNETH PALTROW will earn just $500 (£350) a week if she takes on a series of roles on London's West End later this year (2002). The statuesque actress has met AMERICAN BEAUTY (1999) director SAM MENDES to discuss the possibility of her playing roles originally earmarked for NICOLE KIDMAN at the Donmar Warehouse.
Mendes is artistic director at the trendy theatre, which is putting on revivals of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Chekhov's Uncle Vanya in the Autumn. A source told British newspaper The Mail On Sunday, "We have heard that Gwyneth is definitely coming. Everyone is very excited about the prospect. "
Paltrow would play the roles of Olivia and Yelena at the Covant Garden Playhouse after Kidman had to pull out due to film commitments. Mendes, currently dating KATE WINSLET, is stepping down from his position at the Donmar in December (2002) after a decade which included directing a naked Kidman in The Blue Room.
