Date: 19th January 2002
Actress WINONA RYDER, awaiting trial on shoplifting charges, was stopped by in-store security again yesterday (17th January 2002). However, on this occasion, the alarm bells rang after a lax sales assistant in a Beverly Hills boutique failed to remove security tags from the star's legitimately purchased items.
A fellow shopper says, "She went back to the clerk and had the tag removed. She was polite about it all, but definitely very embarrassed. " Ryder was arrested last month (12th December 2001) in Beverly Hills' Saks Fifth Avenue store after reportedly removing security tags from $5,000 (£3,571) worth of clothing, and attempting to leave the shop with them.
The OSCAR-nominated actress, 30, is expected to use the defence she was simply leaving the store to have a cigarette, and had every intention of paying for the goods. (CPT/WNWPNE)
