Mariah Carey's Movie Attacked - Again

MARIAH CAREY's critically-panned movie debut GLITTER (2001) has been attacked again - this time by hit American TV comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. The show made its return to American screens on Saturday (29SEP01), with actress REESE WITHERSPOON guest presenting and singing sensation ALICIA KEYS performing for the crowds.

But even with the upbeat atmosphere of the show, troubled singer Mariah's box office flop was mercilessly attacked in a mock newscast about wanted terrorist OSAMA BIN LADEN. Show regular SETH MEYERS joked, "Osama Bin Laden has gone into hiding following the recent terrorist attacks. Officials suspect he's hiding out where he's expected he won't be found, so detectives are searching movie theatres showing Glitter (2001). "

Mariah's movie barely dented the American box office charts in its opening weekend (22-23SEP01). Glitter, the only new movie opening in wide release, made a paltry $2. 5 million (£1. 9 million) and failed to register in the American top 10 box-office chart. (RGS/WNV/KW)
