Day Lewis Helps Out Disaster

British actor DANIEL DAY LEWIS helped the rescue effort in New York by carrying much needed ice boxes to hospitals to keep vital supplies of blood cool. The MY LEFT FOOT (1989) star, who is married to REBECCA MILLER - the actress daughter of playwright ARTHUR MILLER - volunteered to give blood but was told to return the next day as queues were too long.

Instead Day-Lewis, 44, the son of a former British Poet Laureate, who has a home near what was the World Trade Center, helped ferry the vital medical supply. (PDD/WNTST/ES)
