Guests at JENNIFER LOPEZ's engagement party in Los Angeles (18AUG01) had to run the gauntlet of security men to make sure no imposters were present. Lopez and fiancee CRIS JUDD's 140 selected guests, including photographer HERB RITTS, actor JUDE LAW, director STEVEN SODERBERGH and former NYPD BLUE star KIM DELANEY, arrived at restaurant MORTONS - where VANITY FAIR magazine stages its annual post-Oscars party - and had to check in with security.
A sign was posted outside forbidding any video or still cameras. Once inside, guests were seated at tables, each of which featured a centrepiece of pale pink roses arranged in a gold box. They dined on chicken kebabs, crab cakes, steak, marinated chicken, sea bass, fruit sorbet and chocolate cake. While devotees waited outside, rumours ran through the crowd. One was that Jennifer and Cris had already tied the knot on 29 July (01), another claimed that they plan to wed next month (SEP01). (KL/WNT/NFA)
