Troubled actor BEN AFFLECK has been sent several messages of support as he begins his 30-day treatment in an alcohol addiction center.
The PEARL HARBOR (2001) star checked himself into PROMISES REHAB CENTRE in Malibu, California, following a four-month spree of partying and gambling. Affleck will now spend his 29th birthday at the clinic next week (begs13AUG01).
His treatment began with detoxification which will be followed by daily sessions of group and individual therapy and physical workouts. Pals GWYNETH PALTROW and MATT DAMON have sent good wishes to Ben.
A film industry representative says, "Ben is carrying a lot on his shoulders right now. Pearl Harbor was not the movie it was expected to be and he didn't really shine. Everyone had bigger hopes for the film. "
Affleck's spokesman says, "Ben is a self-aware and smart man who has decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol. He has chosen to seek professional assistance and is committed to traveling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and his fans. " (RP/WNTMA&WNTSU)
