De Niro To Go Opera?

Hollywood legend ROBERT DE NIRO is being courted to star in a movie about operatic icon ENRICO CARUSO.

The film will give a frank portrait of the Italian tenor's links with the Mafia, as well as his affair with his wife's sister.

The search is also on for a tenor to be his screen voice. The last Caruso biopic, THE GREAT CARUSO, was shot in 1951, with fellow opera great MARIO LANZA providing the vocals.

Caruso was born in Naples, Italy, in 1873, and spent most of his career at the NEW YORK METROPOLITAN HOUSE in New York City. He died in Italy in 1921 whilst awaiting treatment for pleurisy. (ACW/WNBTI/PDD)
