Ewan McGregor To Star In Aussie Biker Movie

EWAN McGREGOR is set to combine his love of motorbikes with his movie career in a forthcoming Australian film.

The flick, about a real-life shoot-out between rival biker gangs, sees the TRAINSPOTTING (1996) star team up with MOULIN ROUGE (2001) producer MARTIN BROWN to turn one of the bloodiest episodes in Sydney's history - the Milperra massacre - into a big screen spectacle.

Brown says, "People like the idea of a biker flick. There hasn't been one for a while - a powerful, hard-core, rock'n'roll biker film. "

The film views the massacre - in which seven people died in a shoot-out between rival bike clubs in 1984 - through the eyes of 'SNODDY' SPENCER, the president of one of the gangs, the Bandidos.

MCGREGOR is being lined up to play the Scots-born Comanchero leader JOCK ROSS. Brown agrees the project will be a creative leap from Moulin Rouge for both him and McGregor. He says, "After four years working on a musical, the biker culture has a certain appeal. But everything is about the story. This is just a great, powerful story. " (KMW/WNWCAN/RP)
