Myers Saves Smelly From Party Fire

MIKE MYERS became a reluctant hero at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL - after he saved a French fan from burning to death.

The Canadian actor was in the South of France promoting his new movie SHREK (2001), when he was approached by a fan who had been sleeping rough - just to meet his hero - and smelled terrible.

Myers felt sympathetic for the man, who he claims looked like "Big Foot," and stopped to sign autographs for him - much to security guards' displeasure.

The actor says, "Somehow he had got past security and was in the Shrek party. I'll always sign, it's my job and I'm happy to do it and he had a ton of stuff but they're trying to move me along and the security guards are very hardcore.

"
And this guy stank. I had no idea I was so popular in the yeti community. I said, 'I'm sorry I have to go,' and the guy goes, 'Mike, in order to get here I had to sleep in a forest, can you sign one more thing?' After someone says that you have to sign. And then he said, `Last night for a pillow I had to use a dead dog,' and I signed something else. The guards are getting heavy on him and I'm signing stuff as they push him away. They push him into an open flame and as he's waving to me billows of smoke start pouring over him. I yelled, 'You're on fire, you're aflame. ' The security guards turned round and gave this guy a fireman's roll. " (KL/WNV/RP)
