BRIDGET JONES's DIARY (2001) is set to become the most popular British film - ever after topping the movie charts in America.
The comedy, starring Renée ZELLWEGER and HUGH GRANT, knocked ANTONIO BANDERAS' SPY KIDS (2001) off America's No1 spot last night (22APR01).
It took more than $11.25 million (£7.5 million) over the weekend (21/22APR01).
The film, based on British author HELEN FIELDING's bestselling novel about a single London girl, is now set to replace FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL (1994) as America's best-loved British film. (TM/WNTSU/NFA)
