Bridget Jones's Diary Tops British Box Office


BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY (2001) has gone straight to the top of the British box office charts following its EASTER (13APR01) release.

The comedy about a female singleton starring Renée ZELLWEGER and HUGH GRANT made ($10.5 million) £7 million in its opening weekend.

The film recorded the ninth highest British debut figure of all time, but only reached third place in the American box office charts, although it still brought in more than $10 million (£666,666).

Meanwhile in Britain, box office runner-up SPY KIDS (2001) took only $2.1 million (£1.4 million), while third-placed film Rugrats in Paris: The Movie (2000) took $654,000 (£436,000). (KW/WNWCAN/ES)
