TOM CRUISE will not let friends or colleagues mention estranged wife NICOLE KIDMAN's name in front of him.

Friends of the star, 38, are shocked at his behaviour - and they realise something terrible must have occurred to cause a rift so deep. A close pal of the COCKTAIL (1986) star says, "You can imagine our dismay when Tom wanted nothing to do with her and banished any mention of her from his life.

"Everyone knew something extraordinary must have happened to cause such a fracture in what seemed like a strong partnership."

The catalyst causing Tom to file for divorce was finding an email from Nicole's hunky chum, actor RUSSELL CROWE. A close pal of Nicole's says, "Evidently, Russell and Nicole had been emailing one another at intervals and Tom found one of them.
