Televised Gay Wedding Stirs Up Furor In Britain

The decision to broadcast a gay wedding live on ITV's popular This Morning show on Valentine's Day has touched off an uproar in Britain, the London Independent reported today (Thursday).

Anne Allen, convener of the Church of Scotland Board of Social Responsibility, told the newspaper that she was "shocked but not surprised" by the telecast. "The media has for a while tried to endorse this kind of relationship." A spokesman for the show responded, "A lot of gay men have contacted us about the possibility of a blessing and we thought Valentine's Day would be the perfect opportunity. They're a sincere and genuine couple and have the full backing of their parents."
