Power Glitch Throws XFL For A Loss

Sports analysts agreed that the game was far better played, but Saturday night's second XFL game between the Los Angeles Xtreme and the Chicago Enforcers scored only half the ratings of the previous week's.

According to overnight Nielsens, the game averaged a 4.6 rating and an 8 share versus 10.3/17 a week earlier. NBC attributed part of the problem to the fact that a generator powering the NBC control truck in Los Angeles failed about 12 minutes into the game, forcing the network to switch to the backup game between San Francisco and Orlando for about 25 minutes. Significantly, the game pulled strong numbers in the hometowns of the two teams, earning a 7.0 rating in Chicago and a 6.7 in Los Angeles. After finishing first on the previous Saturday, NBC dropped to last, well behind ABC, which won the night with a presentation of the 1998 movie The Parent Trap.
