FULL MONTY star ROBERT CARLYLE is set to team up with British director SHANE MEADOWS for a new drama this spring.
According to the NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST, Scotsman Carlyle is to play the lead role in STANDING EIGHT COUNT, a drama about a boxer who's sent to prison for killing a man in a street brawl. The movie will chart the boxer's attempts at rehabilitation following his release from jail. It will be the third time Meadows has based a film in Nottingham - following fellow boxing movie TWENTYFOURSEVEN and A ROOM FOR ROMEO BRASS.
Meadows says, "I have always admired his work so I'm looking forward to teaming up with him." He adds, "I think we have a similar sensibility. We like doing films about real people in recognisable locations." Carlyle recently finished working on the Liverpool-set thriller 51ST STATE. (MCM/WNWCPO)
