Actor-turned-director SEAN PENN has blasted reports that he is to give up acting to concentrate solely on directing.

Penn won't give up acting - because he can't afford to! The director of the upcoming film THE PLEDGE has no choice but to keep acting in between directing projects to support his wife ROBIN WRIGHT and children DYLAN and HARPER.

He explans, "I'm finding myself only able to make a movie as a director once every five years because the stories that I want to do tend to take time a to develop and secondly to get financed. "And in that time the town doesn't see fit to pay me quite enough money to get through those five years without having to act a few times." (RXM/WN/PDD)
