EWAN McGREGOR and ROBERT CARLYLE are set to team up as on-screen rivals - for the love of QUEEN MARY.
They will star in a new $21 million (£14 million) mini-epic based on the life of the young queen and her many suitors. DOUGLAS HENSHALL and JUDE LAW are also being sought for major support roles.
SEAN CONNERY's production company FOUNTAINBRIDGE is co-producing the story with BBC backing. He is not likely to make more than a cameo appearance in the film, however.
MOULIN ROUGE star McGregor appeared with Carlyle in hit British movie TRAINSPOTTING. A source close to the production says, "Sean wants to gather the cream of Scottish talent together for this one. "He feels Scottish history should be told by the Scots whenever possible." (RGS/WNWCAN/CPT)
