KEANU REEVES picked a string of dreadful projects during the late 1990s - because he feared if he didn't do anything, reports of his drug abuse would spiral out of control.
The actor admits in next month's (FEB01) VANITY FAIR he was shocked by allegations of his drug use and jumped into everything to try and prove to the world he wasn't an addict. He says, "I had to work in order to kind of dispel that. So I did some things I wouldn't have normally done if I didn't have to, like a Japanese commercial to pay the rent or a video with PAULA ABDUL."
But the 36-year-old admits he learned a lot from his mistakes. He adds, "I've had wonderful experiences. I mean really wonderful in teaching, personal epiphanies. About life. About a different perspective." (KL/WN/CPT)
