Director Schlesinger Felled By Stroke


Oscar-winning director John Schlesinger, 74, who was scheduled to be honored at the Palm Springs Film Festival opening this week, suffered a stroke in Palm Springs on Dec. 30 and was removed from intensive care on Monday. He is listed in stable condition at Eisenhower Medical Center. Schlesinger won an Academy Award in 1970 for Midnight Cowboy. His other credits include Darling, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and last year's The Next Best Thing.
