INDEPENDENCE DAY makers ROLAND EMMERICH and DEAN DEVLIN have lost their production deal with COLUMBIA.

Although the duo's action movie raked in $809 million (£539 million), subsequent movies GODZILLA and THE PATRIOT saw budgets balloon and grosses stumble. A spokeswoman for the producers called the parting "mutually agreed upon". Devlin and Emmerich were unavailable for comment.

They are currently shooting the $30 million (£20 million) thriller ARAK ATTACK for WARNER BROTHERS. (RP/WNWR/RGS)
