Tom Holland is set to portray the golden age film and dance star in Sony Pictures' untitled Fred Astaire drama, directed by Paul King, which was announced five years ago.

The 30-year-old actor is currently promoting The Odyssey, the new Sir Christopher Nolan-directed epic fantasy film, but Tom will soon head off to prepare for his role as Fred Astaire, the legendary dancer and actor, in an upcoming biopic.

While talking to “Good Morning America,” Holland explained that once he got done with his current press tour he was getting right back into the dance studio to put his full focus into the Astaire biopic. The star wants to handle all dance numbers in the film himself rather than rely on doubles.

"I did my first few rehearsals recently, and it both filled me with excitement and absolute dread because I’ve got so much work to do to try and do Fred proud," Holland said.

Paul King, who made Paddington 2 and Wonka, is directing from a script by Steven Levenson, whose credits include Fosse/Verdon and Dear Evan Hansen, with Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal on board (via Deadline). Holland said he moves into the dance studio the moment the current tours finish, which finally puts a clock on something that has been stuck in development since he was 25.
