As expected, British media giant Carlton Communications has sold its Technicolor unit. The buyer is France's Thomson Multimedia, which is paying $2.1 billion in cash and stock for the film and image-processing company. As part of the deal, Thompson will pay $1.35 billion in cash, take a 5.5-percent stake in Thomson, worth $717 million, and invest $15 million in TAK, an interactive company that Thomson is joint venturing with Microsoft.
