John Madden has taken an indirect swipe at ABC for its decision to hire Dennis Miller as a commentator on Monday Night Football.

Speaking with reporters, Madden remarked, "I have a problem with the fact that we need entertainment or we need to be entertained. ... If that were true, if the football game, the NFL and pro football isn't exciting enough, and we can't create enough interest, passion and love for the game, then we (Fox, CBS, ABC, ESPN) really overpaid for the product."
