Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed that she and Emma Stone are developing a movie about the iconic Muppet with Oh, Mary! sensation Cole Escola penning the script, marking the character’s first solo outing since Jim Henson debuted her on The Muppet Show in 1976.
Lawrence revealed the news during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers' "Las Culturistas" podcast, saying,
"I don't know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it."
When asked if she and Stone would also appear in the film with Miss Piggy, Lawrence teased, "I think so - we have to."
Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are considered two of the greatest actors of their generation, both of whom loomed large in the 2010s thanks to a mix of franchise work and awards contenders. Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, with Stone winning her first Best Actress Academy Award in La La Land, before winning her second for Poor Things. In the 2010s, both were also stars of some iconic film franchises. Lawrence played Mystique in the X-Men prequel films and Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, while Stone played Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man films.
Starting as a chorus pig on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s, Miss Piggy gradually became a bigger part of the series, before becoming an icon in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Despite Kermit being the star, she’s long hogged the spotlight from her froggy beau.
