Grammy Award-winning singer Gloria Estefan has revealed who will be playing her in an upcoming biopic, and it's none other than Rachel Zegler.

The casting announcement arrived as Sony confirmed that Lissette Feliciano will write and direct the project. This development gives the long delayed film a fresh spark.

Gloria Estefan told The Sun newspaper: "I think she's awesome, I think she’s incredible. I know she’s killed it in Evita."

"We're still working on the green light because we’re figuring out where to do it, how to do it. This has been in the works for quite a few years now. And that’s how it is."

"You work, you work, you work, and then all of a sudden, boom, the trigger’s pulled and you’ve got to do it right away. But she’s lovely."

"I think she would accept. I just need to offer her an actual part. So we need to be greenlit completely and we’re almost there."

"I met her by Zoom. She’s got a beautiful singing voice and she’s a great actor."

Zegler first captured audience attention with her role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. She earned a Golden Globe nomination and quickly became a rising star. Since then she has appeared in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Her recent turn as Snow White drew mixed reactions, but she proved she can handle high profile roles.
