The Walt Disney Co., which already operates 13 Disney channels targeting various world markets, is developing five additional ones, President Robert Iger told a meeting of European securities analysts in London Wednesday. He did not indicate which countries were being targeted. Bloomberg News observed that the channels help raise awareness of Disney cartoon characters and thereby boost sales of Disney products. It quoted Wit Soundview analyst Jordan Rohan as saying, "The Disney Channel is very important for Disney far beyond the TV spectrum."
