WESLEY SNIPES is the latest movie star to step into the boxing ring as Hollywood's love of pugilism continues well into 2001.
Snipes' actor pal WOODY HARRELSON teamed up with ANTONIO BANDERAS in PLAY IT TO THE BONE, DENZEL WASHINGTON played RUBIN CARTER in biopic THE HURRICANE and MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ fought in GIRLFIGHT in the past 12 months.
And, with WILL SMITH playing MUHAMMAD ALI and SANDRA BULLOCK set to follow her kickboxing role in MISS CONGENIALITY with a boxing film, Snipes is in good company for his new film UNDISPUTED.
In the movie Snipes, who has also signed up for a sequel to cult vampire movie BLADE in the Czech Republic, will play a convict who becomes a prison champ - only to find he must defend his title against a real heavyweight champion, imprisoned for rape. The original SHAFT, RICHARD ROUNDTREE, is also set to play a boxer in his new movie AL'S LADS. The actor will play a former prizefighter who agrees to take a dive in his last fight. (KL/LADN/NFA)
