MINNIE DRIVER is hoping to launch her singing career with a performance at JOHNNY DEPP's THE VIPER ROOM nightclub.

The British actress, who started out singing jazz standards in nightclubs, is in the process of booking a Christmas (00) gig at the Viper Room prior to completing her first CD early next year (01).

But THE IDEAL HUSBAND star fears she may have to transform from a raven-haired glamour queen to a BRITNEY SPEARS look-a-like for the career change.

She says, "Maybe I'll change my name to MINX, go blonde and just wear a bra and shorts there. "Seriously I'm doing it quietly and slowly because people are so resistant to actors singing."
