Keanu Reeves will voice the role of Shadow in the upcoming third "Sonic the Hedgehog" film at Paramount Pictures.
He joins a cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, as well as Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr. Robotnik.
The first footage for the film debuted at CinemaCon last week and showed off Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik looking more portly than his previous incarnations who plays a part in the arrival of Shadow – a dark and edgy 'anti-Sonic' with the same power set.
Paramount’s Sonic movie franchise dates back to 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog, which overperformed with $319 million globally, becoming a breakout hit in the video game space, a genre that had struggled at the box office. Sonic 2 followed in 2022 and grossed $404 million globally. Director Jeff Fowler is behind all three installments, which voice star Ben Schwartz as Sonic opposite James Mardsen as Tom Wachowski, a human pal of Sonic’s.
Reeves' credits include "Speed", "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and "My Own Private Idaho", as well as the "Matrix" franchise. He will next appear in the "John Wick" spinoff, "Ballerina", opposite Ana de Armas. Reeves is also set to co-star in "Good Fortune" alongside Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.
