Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has agreed to appear as a color commentator on NBC's coverage of the XFL, the new football league being formed by World Wrestling Federation Entertainment and NBC, the Associated Press reported Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the situation.
The XFL is due to begin its regular season on Feb. 3. Ventura had been a wrestler, an announcer for the WWF, and a color man for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers broadcasts before becoming the governor of Minnesota. While his announcer's fee was not indicated in the news story, it is likely that he will donate it to charity to avoid any possible conflict of interest -- something he has done previously when he accepted a WWF assignment to referee a wrestling event in August, 1999.
