Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has joined the cast of Sonic 3, and she's rumored to be playing a major character from the games.

Other confirmed newcomers include Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández , and Jorma Taccone. This follows the confirmation that Jim Carrey would be returning as well, despite previously floating his retirement.

The upcoming action-adventure based on the SEGA video game series will take up where Sonic the Hedgehog 2 left off, and going by a mid-credits scene, Shadow the Hedgehog will make an appearance.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz is set to reprise his role as Sonic the Hedgehog. Details on the plot are sparse, but it will feature Shadow the Hedgehog - Sonic’s speedy rival who first appeared in the 2001 Sega Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2.

It is rumored that Hayden Christensen will voice Shadow The Hedgehog in the film.

The two films to date have pulled in $870.8 million, even with the first one slightly hobbled by the pandemic, so Paramount is keen to continue. A “Knuckles” spin-off TV series is in the works for the Paramount+ service.
