Angelina Jolie Will Reprise Title Role in Upcoming Disney Sequel Maleficent 3.

Angelina Jolie confirms that she is signed on to reprise her role as the evil fairy Maleficent in a third live-action movie for Disney.

While Jolie did not reveal any more information about Maleficent 3, it is likely that the threequel would pick up in real-time since the last we saw the character back in 2019, meaning the movie could pick up several years later. There is currently no word on whether the likes of Elle Fanning, who plays Aurora, or Sam Riley, who plays Diaval, would return alongside Jolie.

Directed by Robert Stromberg from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, the first Maleficent introduces a twist on the tale of the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty, introducing Jolie as the titular Maleficent. The film was a massive box office hit in 2014, making nearly $800 million worldwide and spawning a sequel just a handful of years later.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil continued the story of Jolie’s Maleficent in 2019, though that film ended its worldwide box office run with just under $500 million.

Jolie hinted she might quit acting for good, and insisted she wouldn't choose the same career if she had her time again.

She told the publication: "I wouldn’t be an actress today."

"When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much."

Jolie - whose parents, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, were actors - also admitted she has "never" been "very impressed" with Hollywood after growing up around it.

She said: "I grew up in quite a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity."
