Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio Returning for 'Karate Kid' Sequel.

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are set to unite for an upcoming new entry in the 'Karate Kid' franchise.

Sony announced a new Karate Kid back in September 2022, and in August this year revealed that Jackie Chan would be reprising his role as Mr Han from the 2010 remake.

However, the studio has now also gone and announced that series stalwart Ralph Macchio will star alongside Jackie Chan, reprising his role as protagonist Daniel LaRusso.

Macchio, who starred in the first three Karate Kid movies between 1984 and 1989 before returning to anchor Cobra Kai which first aired in 2018, and Chan, who appeared in the 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith, appeared together in a short video to make the announcement.

"Hi everyone! We've got big news," Jackie began in their announcement video, before Ralph jumped in with, "We're starring in a new Karate Kid movie together."

"That’s big news, but we even have bigger news," Jackie continued. "We're looking for the next Karate Kid."

"That's right - the global search for the star of our new film starts right now. So let's wax on, wax off, everybody," Ralph said, quoting Mr. Miyagi's famous line in the original movie.

The video then directed hopeful stars to KarateKidCasting.com for more information.

Directed by Jonathan Entwistle from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, the new Karate Kid movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2024.
