Singer and actress Rebbeca Marie Gomez, also known as Becky G, has been tapped to voice a key role in Blue Beetle, Warner Bros.’s family adventure feature based on the DC Comics character.

The singer is voicing the Scarab, an alien-created artificial intelligence that gives superpowers to Blue Beetle, played by "Cobra Kai" breakout and fan favorite Xolo Maridueña.

Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, the movie stars Maridueña (Cobra Kai) in the title role and as the character’s alter ego, Jaime Reyes, a recent college grad who, per the studio, unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. Reyes is suddenly given extraordinary powers after the Scarab choose him to be its symbiotic host, changing the course of his life. Becky G will voice the alien symbiote Khaji-Da.

"I am so excited to finally be able to share with you guys that I am officially a part of the Blue Beetle familia," the singer announced on Monday. "I have the honor of playing the voice of Khaji-Da who is an alien symbiote who decides who she wants to give superpowers to. And when I say I could not be any more proud of what you guys are going to experience when watching this film, I mean that from the bottom of my heart."

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle is slated to debut on Aug. 18. The superhero film was initially being developed as an HBO Max exclusive, though was later upgraded to a theatrical release. Its official synopsis reads as follows: "Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE."
