Monica Bellucci is in negotiations to join the cast of the "Beetlejuice" sequel at Warner Bros. Pictures. Bellucci will reportedly play Beetlejuice’s wife.
Plot details have yet to rise from the grave on Beetlejuice 2, though a sequel has been a long time coming. The original film, released in 1988, stars Keaton, Geena Davis, and Alec Baldwin and follows a recently deceased couple (Davis and Baldwin) who contact Beetlejuice (Keaton) to scare away the family who has moved into their former home. Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, who portray the mother and daughter of the family who move into the home, will also be returning for the sequel.
Tim Burton returns to the director's chair for the film, which will be released September 6th 2024 – a release slot alongside Marvel's "Blade" which last week shut down preproduction due to the writer’s strike. "Blade" is likely to be delayed from that slot.
Warners announced yesterday that Beetlejuice 2 will open in the hot post Labor Day genre corridor of Sept 6, 2024. Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing the sequel to the 1988 cult hit which grossed $75M WW.
Bellucci recently starred in Mafia Mamma. Her feature credits include Malena, The Passion of the Christ, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. On TV her credits are L’amour flou and Amazon Prime’s Mozart in the Jungle.
