Succession's Matthew Macfadyen Joins Marvel's Deadpool 3

Matthew Macfadyen is reportedly the latest star to sign on to the third film in Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool saga.

The Ryan Reynolds franchise will welcome Macfadyen, who plays the fan-favorite Tom Wambsgans on the HBO water-cooler smash, joining a new sequel that will also revive Hugh Jackman’s beloved X-Men character Wolverine. Shawn Levy returns as director, and Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen the script.

Macfadyen has been celebrated for his work as the scheming, obsequious Tom in Succession, which had the premiere of its fourth and final season on Sunday. He won a supporting actor Emmy last year and was nominated for an Emmy in 2020.

Macfadyen is currently working on the Amazon film "Holland, Michigan" alongside Nicole Kidman and Gael Garcia Bernal.

"The Crown" breakout Emma Corrin is attached to star in a villain role. Details about Macfadyen’s role is being kept under wraps.

"Deadpool" is among the most successful franchises Disney acquired when it purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019. The first film made $782 million back in 2016, and in 2018 “Deadpool 2” earned $785 million, setting a record as the highest grossing R-rated film until 2019’s “Joker” topped it with $1.074 billion.

“Deadpool 3” is currently slated to be released on Nov. 8, 2024.
