Tom Hanks Honours World War II Veterans

Hollywood star TOM HANKS turned out at the weekend (10/11NOV00) to honour World War II veterans at a memorial day service.

The SAVING PRIVATE RYAN star, who has always taken a special interest in the 1940s war, spoke at the ceremony, on the site of a new WWII memorial currently being built in Washington DC.

The ceremony, which was personally funded by Saving Private Ryan director STEVEN SPIELBERG, was packed with war veterans, whom Hanks addressed by reading a story from war correspondent ERNIE PILE. (LE/WNV/RGS)
