Off The Newsprint And Onto The Screen

The ongoing Los Angeles police scandal is likely to be dramatized in a movie based on "One Bad Cop," a New York Times Sunday Magazine article that appeared last month, the Hollywood Reporter reported today (Monday). The trade paper said that The Canton Co. had paid "a substantial six-figure sum" to Lou Cannon, the writer of the article, which profiled former officer Rafael Perez, who agreed to testify against fellow officers in the city's Rampart division in return for leniency in his own case. Perez had been arrested for stealing cocaine from a police evidence room. According to the Reporter, the movie, like the article, will also highlight the case of one of the Rampart officers' victims, who was shot (and left paralyzed), framed, and sent to prison.
