Antoine Fuqua to direct Michael Jackson biopic for Lionsgate.

Director Antoine Fuqua will helm the upcoming biopic film, ‘Michael’, based on the life of Michael Jackson from Lionsgate.

In a statement, Fuqua spoke about taking on the project and his deep love for “combining film and music,” considering some of the first films he made were music videos. He also touched on the incredible influence Jackson had on him.

"For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson," Fuqua said. "I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work - the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible."

Written by 'Skyfall' scribe John Logan, 'Michael' is said to give audiences the never-before-told and in-depth portrayal of the Grammy-winning singer who became the King of Pop.

The film will explore all aspects of Michael’s life, including his most iconic performances that led him to become the greatest entertainer of all time.

While we do not know who will be playing Michael Jackson as of yet, the role is sure to be one of the most difficult ones ever for whichever actor takes on the role. Fuqua has just come off the dramatic movie with Will Smith, Emancipation, which was an excellent historical action picture that was showcased this past December on Apple TV. Lionsgate and GK Films will be the principal studios behind the making of the movie, Michael.

While Michael Jackson’s life story will not be easy to tell given all its ups and downs, Fuqua’s background in music videos makes him the perfect man for the job of directing the very intriguing upcoming picture. Let’s hope the movie makes the story of Jackson come to life in such a way that it will be one of the best recent biopics
