Thelma And Louise Musical In The Works From Amanda Seyfried And Evan Rachel Wood.

Amanda Seyfried is working on a major musical with Evan Rachel Wood, and now speculation has turned to it being an adaptation of the 1991 movie Thelma & Louise.

Amanda Seyfried was one of a handful of winners at the 80th Golden Globe Awards who was unable to attend. Seyfried–who won Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film for the Hulu series The Dropout, in which she played controversial Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes–however, had a good reason for being absent from the ceremony. According to the presenters, Seyfried was "deep in the process of creating a new musical."

While not confirming the specifics on what exactly the Thelma & Louise musical might entail, Amanda Seyfried did post a video on Instagram confirming she was in fact working on a musical. In the video, Seyfried said, in part, "It is a true honor to have been a part of that. I had to miss it because I am doing something that is magic and it’s musical. So I’m finally getting to do something that I’ve never really done. That’s all I can really say about it. Hopefully more soon. But it’s a lot of work. It’s more fun, and it’s been a great night."

A "Thelma & Louise" musical has been in the works since at least 2021 with the film’s screenwriter, Callie Khouri, attached and writing the book with Haley Feiffer, as well as indie singer/songwriter Neko Case creating the score. Scott Delman serves as the producer.

Seyfried has previous musical experience, starring in “Mamma Mia!” and “Mamma Mia 2.” As for Evan Rachel Wood, she has a little experience in that department too, with performances in the Beatles musical “Across The Universe,” and singing for her role as Anna and Elsa’s mom in “Frozen 2.”

"Thelma & Louise" starred Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon as two friends who break free of their domestic rut and embark on a law-breaking road trip. Brad Pitt famously made his big screen debut with the film, which went on to land screenwriter Callie Khouri an Academy Award.
