Chernin Says Fox Was Hurt By New York - New York Series

News Corp. President Peter Chernin may find himself as welcome in New York as the Atlanta Braves' foot-in-mouth pitcher John Rocker following his remarks during a conference call with analysts Wednesday. Speaking about the lower-than-expected ratings for Fox's coverage of the World Series, Chernin blamed the downturn on the fact that the series featured two teams from New York. He said that initially the network "had some hope that it would captivate the country." However, the low ratings, which caused Fox to provide free "make good" commercials to advertisers, proved otherwise. "Clearly," Chernin said, "the rest of the country still hates New York."
