Bradley Cooper to star in Steven Spielberg's 'Bullitt'.

Bradley Cooper has been cast in Steven Spielberg's upcoming original film about Frank Bullitt, the character made famous from the 1968 Steven McQueen thriller.

The project is not a remake of the iconic 1968 thriller starring Steven McQueen as the character who is on the hunt for a mob kingpin that killed his witness. That film was famous for a legendary car chase sequence and was one of McQueen’s defining roles.

The modern "Bullitt" is said to be a new original story featuring the character. Further plot specifics are under wraps. Josh Singer is penning the script whilst Cooper, Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger produce.

The decision to cast Cooper was not a sudden one. Cooper and Spielberg have been discussing Bullitt since the pandemic began, talking about the character and how to put a fresh spin on the story. Cooper and Spielberg have been trying to collaborate on a project for years, as Spielberg came close to directing American Sniper which starred Cooper, but ultimately moved on and handed the opportunity to Clint Eastwood.

Cooper is currently producing Maestro, which he also co-wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. He plays the lead alongside Carey Mulligan, and that film is set to be released on Netflix in 2023.

The original Bullitt was released in 1968 and is most famous for its car chase scene that takes place through the streets of San Francisco. Since its release, that scene has often been heralded as the greatest car chase in movie history and as one of the most influential for future action films.
